Jocolyn Bowser-Bostick (Delaware)

Nominated/Accepted for Steering Committee Member at Large

Background, Experience, Skills

Jocolyn_Bowser-Bostick_for_the_web.jpgI was born in North Philadelphia and raised mostly there until the age of 11. I attended public middle school and high school in Media, PA which is the county seat of Delaware County. I took college courses at CCP and Yale University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Temple University. I've had several different jobs such as a field an office worker for the U.S. Census, nursing home aide, and lifeguard for the YMCA and Philadelphia's Dept. of Recreation in which I also taught children how to swim. I worked for 24 years as a Laboratory Technician at Coriell Institute for Medical Research. Volunteering with the Green Party I have become better and more comfortable at public speaking. I've also become quite good at collecting petition signatures and comfortable talking to people when canvassing.

I’m strongly committed to and willing to work at increasing the diversity and membership in the Green Party. I want to increase the collaboration between the Green Party and other activist groups that have a progressive agenda. I believe I can put my writing and research skills to good use in advancing the goals and values of the Green Party and helping its candidates get elected.

Kristin Combs (Philadelphia)

Nominated/Accepted for Steering Committee Member at Large

Background, Experience, Skills

Tim_Maloney_for_web.jpgMy home is in Port Richmond, Philadelphia with a house full of chosen family. I've served as the state party chair for the past two years and ran in 2016 as our State Treasurer candidate to help us successfully gain minor party status. In 2015 I secured over 11,000 votes as our candidate for city council at-Large in Philadelphia. In my day job, I work as a Director for the School District of Philadelphia.

Why Candidate Would be Effective in this/these position(s)

The Green Party has so much going for it! We have thousands registered across the state but only a handful are actively engaged -- think of that potential! We'll win and grow by effectively organizing our base. I'm a trained organizer. My skill set is behind the scenes facilitation, leadership development, and strategic planning. I've used those skills to grow our party over the past few years and hope to continue to serve as an at-Large Steering Committee member.

Jenny Isaacs (Bucks)

Nominated/Accepted for GreenWave Divisional Team Leader

Background, Experience, Skills

Jenny_Isaacs_for_web.jpgI have served on the Green Wave committee since July 2016 and was nominated and approved to be co-chair with Sheri in October of that year; we were jointly re-appointed in Jan 2017 and worked together this year to bring the vision of Green Wave to reality. For Cheri's campaign in March I designed the online tools to recruit and schedule Election Day poll volunteers (filling 60+ poll shifts with suburban Greens); from March through August I coordinated the statewide petitioning effort for Jules Mermelstein (overseeing 50 volunteers who collected more than 4,300 signatures from 44 counties). I have been consistently active in keeping the Green Wave website up-to-date, and designed the graphics for the "Municipal Election Information" and "How Can I Help?" pages. I have worked hard to acquire some proficiency in Nationbuilder in order to be able to utilize our party's main technical platform.

Why Candidate Would be Effective in this/these position(s)

I worked extremely well with Sheri over the last couple of years; I also actively recruited Garret Wasserman into Green Wave and have greatly enjoyed collaborating with him this year as a fellow regional coordinator. I would provide valuable continuity for the committee while helping to nurture and support new leadership and a healthy succession. I am aware that Garret may need to step back from full engagement in the second half of the year when his first baby arrives (hurray for babies!).

Jason Jackson (Chester)

Nominated/Accepted for Operations Divisional Team Leader

Background, Experience, Skills

I registered Green shortly after my eighteenth birthday, senior year of High School in 2004. However, I briefly changed my affiliation in 2016 to vote in the closed primary for Bernie Sanders. During the primary, I worked on my own to hold Voter Registration events at West Chester University, where I was a student in Computer Science. Soon after the primary season ended, I was contacted for the first time about a local county green party chapter being started, by contacts I had made while holding and participating in voter registration, canvassing, and phonebanking for Bernie Sanders. During the first meeting, I assumed the responsibility of taking meeting minutes. I was voted secretary during the short term from October of 2016 to April of 2017, when I was re-elected for a 2nd term. While on the board for Chester County Green Party, I was elected as a state delegate, a position I have held since CCGP was officially recognized by the state. I participated in canvassing events for Cheri Honkala in Philadelphia, and was a regular contributer to the petitioning and canvassing efforts of Jules Mermelstein for Superior Court Judge, and Nate Craig for Mayor of Phoenixville. I have helped to build my county party by networking with local political and activist groups, surrounding green party county chapters, organizing county fundraising events, and helping to table events to aid local candidates elections and increase party visibility.

Why Candidate Would be Effective in this/these position(s)

Recognizing the large number of state Green Party members with computer science backgrounds, as Operations Divisional Team Leader, I plan to try to organize and leverage these talents to help give Green Party of Pennsylvania the digital tools and presence to continue to grow, while decreasing the party's operating costs.

Tim Maloney (Luzerne)

Nominated/Accepted for Steering Committee Member at Large

Background, Experience, Skills

Tim_Maloney_for_web.jpgTim Maloney is a Queer Muslim activist based out of the Wyoming Valley. He has a passion for advocating social justice, sex positivity, and nonviolence. Tim has been a Green since learning about the party at a Standing Rock rally. He is a graduate of Keystone College with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts & Humanities. Tim has a blog at: "maloneyofnepa.com".

Why Candidate Would be Effective in this/these position(s)

I think my experience as an activist and community organizer would be an asset to the GPPA. I also have experience in digital media and public relations. I am hardworking and able to think outside of the box. I also enjoy learning new things.

Sheri Miller (Adams)

Nominated/Accepted for Steering Committee Chair/Steering Committee Secretary (if not elected Chair)

Background, Experience, Skills

Tim_Maloney_for_web.jpgMy background is in technology and nursing. I have a strong general background in computers with some programming and web design skills, and an excellent knowledge of office software and tools. For the past 15 years, I've worked in healthcare informatics (computer software and documentation in healthcare) and consulting, coordinating multiple teams for complex implementations. A large part of my job is to serve as a liaison between lay people and IT experts in a busy ER and trauma center. My background has given me skills in communication and team-building, as well as trouble-shooting problems and making quick decisions when needed. As a part of our ER's leadership team, I have developed an understanding of how systems and processes drive motivation and success and have applied that knowledge to my work with the Green Party over the past year and a half.

Why Candidate Would be Effective in this/these position(s)

As Secretary over the past year, I have proposed and promoted many positive changes in our structures and processes. As GreenWave Co-Chair, for the past year and a half, I've helped to bring excitement and success to campaigns across the state by developing the structure needed to support a state-wide, coordinated effort. I would like to continue in a leadership role for at least one more year to help nurture these new ideas that can help bring excitement, motivation, and needed funds to our party. I've worked in a leadership role in my hospital for 15 years. My focus has always been to support people through processes and tools that make their work more organized and easier. In my ER role, I am continually guided by policies and procedures that direct my practice and am accustomed to checking the policies before acting in unclear circumstances. I've also learned, through many state inspections, that our policies (or Rules) are there to protect us but they also legally hold us to whatever standards we enact, so if not written carefully, they can limit our own flexibility or even ability to meet our goals. I believe this experience can help me facilitate judiciously as we progress through our Rules revisions process. Over the past year I've demonstrated my commitment and reliability by attending meetings regularly, following up on assignments, and getting things done.

David Ochmanowicz (Bucks)

Nominated/Accepted for Communications Divisional Team Leader

Background, Experience, Skills

My name is Dave Ochmanowicz Jr., I am a long time Green and it means a lot to me when I say; at age 37, it is the only party I have ever been registered with. I am dedicated to the 10 key values and committed to continuing to promote the 4 pillars every day while building the largest progressive political party in Pennsylvania. I have been a volunteer with GP of PA for many years, around 2012 respectfully. Within these many previous years of volunteering through my various rolls serving the State Party & my Local Bucks County Party, I have had the honor of working with some of the most committed and wonderful (and Green) Pennsylvanians. My background and experience in brief summary form:

dave_i_am_green_for_the_web2.jpg2012 – 2016 Bucks County Greens Local Chair

Since 2013; one of the Current hands responsible for Website & Social Media

2014 – 2017 GP of PA / GPUS Media Committee 2015; Merchandise Committee

2016 – current Merchandise Committee Chair and Web store manager / marketing

Previous PA GP State Steering Committee member

Previous PA GP State Secretary

Why Candidate Would be Effective in this/these position(s)

I think my above background experience and coordination will help the State party build a more robust and diverse response and outreach model in 2018 – 2019.

Bill Pilkonis (Lackawanna)

Nominated/Accepted for Steering Committee Member at Large/Communications Divisional Team Leader

Background, Experience, Skills

Bill_Pilkonis_for_web.jpgAs a Scranton resident, I have learned to stay politically aware of the rampant corruption this town harbors. Educated at Penn State in Landscape Architecture, I had plans to turn Scranton into an eco-city of the future, redefining the moniker "Electric City." The recession deferred those dreams, but opened the door for organization in the Wyoming Valley. Through my many varied fields of work, I have picked up many skills necessary to communicating and connecting with people. I have a passion for restoring natural systems, and for evolving our state politics to a higher caliber. To that end, I see the Greens as not only a political party, but a statement of hope to those that are fed up. This is not the end, the people and planet will win!

Why Candidate Would be Effective in this/these position(s)

As stated above, I have plenty of experience dealing with people, and years of informal organizing work herding activists to causes. Pairing that with my training through the PIRGs, I have a large skill set for outreach and communication that can help not only organize folks, but bestow information in a palatable way for even the most politically ignorant. The way to move forward as a party, state, and nation, is not to bicker and hold the line, but to engage in critical discussion and find common ground. This is key to a growing party's ability to elevate the level of conversation and, in both appearance and reality, be the better person. Respect is earned, and this is how we do it as an often-maligned third party.

Shane Rielly (Lackawanna)

Nominated/Accepted for Steering Committee Member at Large

Background, Experience, Skills

Shane_Reilly_for_web.jpgI helped to establish a regional grassroots movement for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primary season. With neighbors and friends, I created an online presence, canvassed, and held events promoting the senator’s platforms of a living wage, universal healthcare, and peaceful cooperation with other nations. When it became clear to me that the corporate parties no longer functioned, and feeling a little betrayed by the senator’s endorsement of Clinton, I set about establishing a county local of the Green Party. Resigning from the Young Democrats of Lackawanna County I was joined by several other DemExiters. Our county local, Lackawanna, quickly built a core group of members which has had great success and is now under new leadership as more and more people get involved in our activities. We hold monthly meetings as well as co-host events for the public and raise money for various charities and Green candidates. Since our local was established a little over a year ago I have served as Judge of Elections twice, and two other Greens have served as Inspector of Elections, and a fourth Green actually won a write-in campaign for a Judge of Elections position in Scranton. I graduated from the University of Scranton with a MS in secondary education in 2012. I have worked in the field of international adoptions for the part 8 years or so and am currently a Senior Program Coordinator for an international adoption agency based in Scranton.

Why Candidate Would be Effective in this/these position(s)

Although this would be my first time serving on the steering committee I am dedicated to helping grow the Green Party of Pennsylvania. If I am chosen to serve I will do my best to represent our values while working with the rest of the steering committee members and other state-wide committees to advance our mutual goals.

Tim Runkle (Lancaster)

Nominated/Accepted for Steering Committee Treasurer

Background, Experience, Skills

Tim_Maloney_for_web.jpgI am chairman of the Lancaster County Green Party and serve as county delegate to the Green Party of Pennsylvania. I am the current Treasurer of the Green Party of Pennsylvania and during 2016 ran for elected office in Elizabethtown Borough. I have a B.S. in Geology from Millersville University and for the past 10 years have successfully managed environmental remediation projects in the northeast United States. These projects involve complex environmental conditions which require a firm handle of regulatory, business, and stakeholder knowledge.

Why Candidate Would be Effective in this/these position(s)

During the past year as serving Treasurer, I facilitated the design and approval of the 2018 budget for the Green Party of Pennsylvania. My primary focus has been identifying cost savings opportunities within the Party expenditures and commitments. In seeking a second term I intend to work within the Finance Committee to increase the Party’s fundraising abilities and share success and accountability with the general membership.

Beth Scroggin (Chester)

Nominated/Accepted for Steering Committee Secretary/Steering Committee Member at Large (if not elected Secretary)/Operations Divisional Team Leader

Background, Experience, Skills

Beth_Scroggin_for_Web.jpgI graduated from Boston University in 2007 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Math Education, and obtained my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State Great Valley in 2009. I have been teaching math at Octorara Area High School for over 10 years, and have been an active member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the state’s largest union. Recently, I have become an Advocate for Children and Education (ACE) and have attended training on how to effectively organize within one’s local union, as well as lobby government officials. Politically, I became involved in the Bernie Sanders campaign in February 2016, making 3500 calls across the country and knocking on 1000 doors in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. I participated in honk-and-waves and other events hosted by Phoenixville Area Citizens for Bernie. After the election, the group became Phoenixville Area Progressives, and I became an officer in the group, giving a speech at the December 2016 meeting on the importance of continuing to fight for what you believe in even when all hope seems lost..

Why Candidate Would be Effective in this/these position(s)

After attending a meeting of Montgomery County Green Party in September 2016, I registered as a Green and co-founded the Chester County Green Party in October 2016. Since then, I helped inspire Nate Craig to run for Mayor of Phoenixville as a Green and assisted in organizing his 2017 campaign. I also served as the Chester County coordinator of the Jules Mermelstein campaign last year. Since co-founding the Chester County Green Party, we have successfully connected with the Green Party locals in Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks, and Lancaster Counties, as well as the city of Philadelphia. I believe my prior experience and organizational skills will help me to serve on the State Steering Committee either as Secretary or as an At-Large Member, or as the Operations Division Team Leader.
