Cheri Honkala, a long time Philadelphia resident and local and national human rights advocate, is seeking the office of State Representative District 197 in the March 21, 2017 Special Election.
Cheri is co-founder of the Kensington Welfare Rights Union and co-founder and National Coordinator of the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign. For nearly thirty years, Cheri has been a dedicated and tireless advocate for social and economic justice on behalf of people experiencing homelessness and poverty. In District 197, one of the poorest in the nation, many struggle to get by on less than $2 a day.
As State Representative District 197, Cheri will bring a new, grassroots-generated voice to the General Assembly in Harrisburg to advocate for health care and education for all, end mass incarceration and the war on drugs, protect immigrants, promote social and economic equality, and fight for policies that redirect industries away from environmental destruction toward sustainable and renewable energy.
