GPPA Leadership Roles & Responsibilities

Any registered Green or Green supporter can nominate (or self-nominate) people for Steering Committee, state officers, Team Leaders, or representatives to GPUS. Eligibility to serve in these roles is limited to registered Greens, as required by the bylaws.

According to GPPA bylaws, the State Committee (made up of county delegates and the Steering Committee) will vote for these positions at the first meeting of the year.

Read the qualifications and responsibilities below, and if you think of someone (including yourself) who may have the ability and desire to fulfill one of these positions, you can submit candidates for GPPA Steering Committee, officers, and Team Leaders, as well as GPUS delegates, via the Open Elections page.


Responsibilities / Qualifications: (Expected From GPPA Leadership)

Co-Chair: (2 Spots)

Term: Elected for two-year terms – one elected each year in alternating years.

Responsibilities:

  • Call meetings

  • Set agendas

  • Attend bi-weekly meetings

  • Respond promptly to calls for a vote

  • Preside over meetings and elections

  • Execute the business of the party

  • Conduct polls

  • Sign and submit legal election documents

  • Work with state and federal elections officials to ensure operations are within legal guidelines

  • Promote the development of Steering Committee goals and planning to meet goals

  • Serve as liaison and resource for Committees

  • Give public statements when needed

  • Provide vision and motivation for members

Qualifications:

  • Registered Green

  • Reliable

  • General knowledge of election processes

  • Moderate understanding of computer tools, word processors, and spreadsheets

  • Availability for weekly meetings and follow-up planning

  • Leadership and motivational qualities


Secretary:

Term: Elected for two-year terms in odd years.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend bi-weekly meetings

  • Respond promptly to calls for a vote

  • Maintain records of all meetings

  • Maintain party documents

  • Help to set agendas

  • Assist the Chair to execute the business of the party

  • Conduct polls

  • Sign and submit legal election documents

  • Preside for the limited purpose of conducting an election to fill a Chair vacancy, as provided in the bylaws

  • Serve as liaison and resource for Committees

  • Provide vision and motivation for members

Qualifications:

  • Registered Green

  • Reliable

  • General knowledge of election processes

  • Moderate understanding of computer tools, word processors, spreadsheets, and web systems

  • Availability for weekly meetings and follow-up planning

  • Leadership and motivational qualities


Treasurer:

Term: Elected for two-year terms in even years.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend bi-weekly meetings

  • Respond promptly to calls for a vote

  • Maintain financial records

  • Deposit funds and issue payments

  • Sign and submit legal financial documents

  • Assist the Chair to execute the business of the party

  • Serve as liaison and resource for Committees

  • Provide vision and motivation for members

Qualifications:

  • Registered Green

  • Reliable

  • General knowledge of election processes and financial election rules

  • Moderate understanding of computer tools, word processors, spreadsheets, and web systems

  • Availability for weekly meetings and follow-up planning

  • Leadership and motivational qualities


At-Large Steering Committee: (3 Spots)

Term: Elected for one-year terms, each year.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend bi-weekly meetings

  • Respond promptly to calls for a vote

  • Assist the Chair to execute the business of the party

  • Serve as liaison and resource for a Committee

  • Provide vision and motivation for members

Qualifications:

  • Registered Green

  • Reliable

  • Basic understanding of computer tools, word processors, and spreadsheets

  • Availability for weekly meetings and follow-up planning

  • Leadership and motivational qualities


Committee Team Leaders: (4 Spots)

Term: Team Leaders/Co-Leaders are appointed by the Steering Committee for one-year terms and may be re-appointed in consecutive years. The Steering Committee will select appointees from accepted nominations.

Responsibilities:

  • Call and preside over Team meetings

  • Set Team agendas

  • Promote the development of Team goals and action planning to meet goals

  • Ensure that records of meetings are recorded and maintained

  • Provide vision and motivation for Team members

  • Facilitate Team activities and help secure needed resources

Qualifications:

  • Registered Green

  • Reliable

  • Basic understanding of computer tools, word processors, and spreadsheets

  • Availability for bi-weekly meetings and follow-up planning

  • Leadership and motivational qualities

  • Various special skills for specific divisions (such as knowledge of election processes for GreenWave, or media background for Communications)


GPUS National Committee Delegates:

Term: Elected for staggered two-year terms, with a portion of delegate and alternate seats elected each year, as determined by GPUS rules and current apportionment.

Responsibilities:

  • Review proposals, questions, and topics for National Committee votes

  • Communicate with and solicit feedback from Pennsylvania delegates and Greens

  • Vote in accordance with GPUS National Committee procedures, primarily via electronic communication and listservs

  • Develop proposals and assist other members in developing proposals to submit to the National Committee from the Green Party of Pennsylvania

Qualifications:

  • Registered Green

  • Reliable

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Basic understanding of email and computer tools

  • Availability for ongoing communication and follow-up

  • Leadership and motivational qualities


GPUS Committee Members: (Multiple)

Term: Elected for two-year terms when positions are open.
